Why is moss the first check in the city?
OSU Extension, cited in the FACTS sheet, says moss on Pacific Northwest roofs is largely a result of constant moisture, and that shade drives it. A city roof under trees is checked for moss first, and the covering beneath is examined before any cleaning begins.
What about the wind and the power outages?
The FACTS sheet records the September 2020 and October 2021 windstorms as outage events, with about 115,000 and about 25,000 customers out at their peaks. Those are outage figures. A roof in the city that was in the wind is inspected on the roof, and this site does not state a damage figure for the county.
Who issues the permit in the city?
The FACTS sheet does not identify the City of Hillsboro building division, so the roofer confirms the office and the requirements for the address before a replacement is booked.
Who checks the roofer's licence?
The Oregon Construction Contractors Board. The roofing class is verified on the Board's site before the quote is accepted, and this page does not state the class.
Keeping a Hillsboro file
A Hillsboro file carries the moss record, the leak record, the storm record and the permit reference, in date order, so the whole history of the roof can be read in one place.
What the record is for
The record is for the homeowner, the roofer and any insurer. It shows what was found, what was done and what is still open, in order.
